Why does my screen share look blurry?
A blurry screen share almost always means the video is being compressed harder than the content deserves. There are two different reasons that happens, and they need opposite fixes — so start by finding out which one you are looking at.
Open Settings, enable “Display video quality statistics”, and look at the Limited by: line on the video:
bandwidth— your connection (or the viewer’s) cannot carry the stream. Nothing on the machine will help.cpu— your computer cannot encode the frames fast enough, and WorkAdventure has lowered the resolution to keep up. Closing other applications and browser tabs often fixes it outright.- nothing at all — the picture is as good as the current settings allow, so raise them.
Then, in the same settings panel:
- “Screen sharing quality” controls how much detail is captured and how much bandwidth is spent on it. High captures at 1440p; Recommended at 1080p; Low at 720p. If you are sharing code or a dense spreadsheet, High is the setting you want.
- “If network bandwidth is limited”, choose “Keep text readable”. It tells WorkAdventure to sacrifice frame rate rather than resolution when the stream has to be squeezed — exactly the right trade for slides, documents and code, and exactly the wrong one for a video clip.
One more thing worth knowing: a screen share is sharpest right after the moment it stops moving. Video compression spends its bits on what changes, so scrolling a long document keeps it soft, and it snaps into focus a second after you stop.
If you want the detail of how WorkAdventure chooses codecs and bitrates, and what it does when a machine cannot keep up, it is all in this article.
